This day I saw the Akane tsubomi fukurefushi on Katsura River, which I had previously found in Kameoka area several years ago. It is a kind of gall (abnormal plant growth formed by insects) , very small and unconspicuous. When I was observing the riverbed where Akane blooms every year, I found that some of the buds had been transformed into galls. In these buds, tiny larvae of the fly make room and live. When it is mature enough, the galls fall to the ground with larvae in them. They emerge as adult flies when time comes next year.
