しばらくぶりに京都府立植物園に出かけました。あっという間に秋が深まっています。やはり1ヶ月に1回は訪問しないと、植物の継続観察ができませんね。四季彩の丘も昨年とはダイブレイアウトが変わっているのですが、それになじまないうちに秋の終わりが来てしまいました。見逃したものを悔いても仕方ないので、今の花を楽しみます。
花壇の中央部に一際目を引く背の高い植物が花を付けています。正面から見て、左側は皇帝ダリアあるいは木立ダリアというメキシコから中米に書けての原産のダリア。最近自宅の近辺でも咲いています。右側は、キクイモのお化けのような花ですが、ニトベギク（新渡戸菊）。皇帝ヒマワリとも言うらしいです。これもメキシコから中米に書けての原産ということで、とんでもない大きさの花が晩秋の植物園の訪問者の目を引いていました。
Over the weekend, I went to the Kyoto Botanical Garden after a long interval. Autumn is quickly gone. The layout of the Shikisai-no-oka has changed since last year, but the end of autumn came before I could adjust to it. I should have visited the garden at least once a month. It's no use regretting what I missed, so I enjoyed the current flowers.
In the center of the flower bed, there were tall flowering plants that caught my eyes. The one on the left is the emperor dahlia or wood dahlia (Dahlia imperialis), which is native to Mexico and Central America. It has become popular in Japan and one is blooming near my house. On the right is the Nitobe chrysanthemum, a flower that looks like an overgrown Jerusalem artichoke (Helianthus tuberosus), named after Inazo Nitobe, who is believed to have introduced the variety into Japan during Meiji Era. It is otherwise called "Emperor sunflower". This plant is also native to Mexico and Central America. Their ridiculously tall figures and large flowers decorate otherwise barren flowerbeds and caught the attention of visitors.
