亀山公園に冬芽の勉強に出かけました。色々と収穫があったのですが、冬芽とは異なる「外道」でき名ものの写真をポストしておきます。まずはジュウガツザクラ。「いくら何でも1月に桜はないでしょう！」と言いたいです。スーパーのナスやトマトではあるまいに、と思います。次にクロガネモチ。この木はこれまであまり実をつけず、昨年は数粒の赤い実をつけたので、モチノキかなと思っていたのですが。昨年夏の日当たりがよかったのか、きれいな実をつけています。最後にヤマノイモ。緑が豊かな時期には目立ちませんが、冬枯れの公園ではヤマノイモの果実が目立ちます。近くに生えていたカエデドコロが切られてしまったので、ひょっとしてカエデドコロか！？と思ったのですが、残念ながら大きなムカゴが付いていて、ヤマノイモとわかりました。
I went to Kameyama Park to study winter buds. I was able to find many, but I'd like to post some "out-of-the-way" plants.
First is the Jyugatsuzakura cherry tree. "No matter what, cherry blossoms are not supposed to be in January! I would say. I simply cannot allow cherry trees bloom in January! Cherry trees should not be like eggplant or tomatoes in the supermarket.
Next, there was the Kuroganemochi (Kurogane holly (Ilex rotunda)). This tree has never produced much fruit in the past. Last year it produced a few red berries, so I thought it might be a mochinoki tree (Ilex integra). Perhaps it got good sunlight last summer, and it is now bearing beautiful fruits.
Last but not least, the yamanoimo (Japanese mountain yam (Dioscorea japonica)). It's not so noticeable when the park is lush in summer, but in a winter park, the fruits are conspicuous. Upon sighting it, I hoped it might be a Kaededokoro (Dioscorea quinquelobata Thunb.)), since the maple dokoro that was growing nearby was cut down. But it turned out to be a yamanoimo because it had a large mukago (propagule) attached to it. Which is typical of yamanoimo.
