玄関にカマキリが一匹迷い込んでいました。オオカマキリのオスのようです。玄関に入り込んだ昆虫はなかなか外に出られないので、植え込みに放してやりましたが、感謝するでもなし、こちらを冷ややかに見つめています。カマキリの複眼はどこから見ても黒い1点がこちらを見つめていて、それがいかにも冷徹な殺し屋の視線らしく、興味はあるものの、幼い頃からあまり好きになれない昆虫です。この後つまもうとしたら、大きな羽を広げて、見事に20mほど飛翔して視界から消えていきました。
I found a praying mantis wandering in the doorway. It seemed to be a male praying mantis (Tenodera aridifolia). Insects wandering into a doorway can't easily get out, so I let it go into the thicket of azarea. Instead of thanking me, just stared at me coldly. The mantis' compound eye has a black spot staring at you from every angle, and it looks like the gaze of a cold-hearted killer. When I tried to pick it up after this, it spread its large wings and flew about 20 meters before disappearing from my sight. Some people love this insect because of its air of aloofness.
