モジゴケ：Mojigoke, script lichen (Graphis scripta)

林縁の灌木に生えていた地衣類です。苔類に詳しい同行の方に「モジゴケ」と教えていただきました。学名は「書かれた文字」、上記英名は「筆記文字の苔」と、その名の通りで、学名から和名が来ているのかもしれません。もう一つの英名は、"secret writing lichen"ということで、文字を読もうとしても読めないことから来ているのかもしれません。QRコードリーダーにかけたら、暗号が読み解けたりして．．．(^_^)

This is a lichen that was growing on a shrub at the edge of the forest. One of the party members told me that it was "mojigoke". The scientific name above means "written script" and the English name above is "script lichen." The Japanese name may have come directly from the scientific name. The other English name is "secret writing lichen", which may be derived from the fact that it is impossible to read the letters even if you try. It may be decoded by the QR code reader. ;-)

カビゴケ

名前が可愛らしくないので、名前を聞いただけで毛嫌いする人もいるでしょうね。小さな小さな苔類です。渓流沿いの湿気のある場所で、常緑樹の葉表などに生えています。こすると、独特のサロメチールのような匂いがするので、すぐにそれとわかります。葉が落葉すれば葉と共に落ちて朽ちるので、常に世代交代しているようです。こんなちっぽけな苔ですが、『京都府レッドデータブック2015』では、絶滅危惧種の扱いになっています。

Kabigoke, literally, mould moss (Leptolejeunea elliptica)--the name is not pretty, and some people will probably hate it just by hearing the name. It is a tiny little moss species. It grows in moist places along mountain streams, on the leaf surface of evergreen trees. When rubbed, it gives off a distinctive salomethyl-like odor that is easy to recognize. When the leaves fall, it falls along with the leaves, so it seems to be constantly changing generations. This tiny moss is listed as an endangered species in the Kyoto Red Data Book 2015.
