久しぶりに植物園に出かけました。10月1日に再開園してから約1ヶ月遅れです。年間パスポートを2回延長してもらいました。最後に訪れたのは夏前。今、木々の様子はもうすっかり秋の様相です。その中でシラキの冬芽を探しました。葉が赤く紅葉して落ちたばかりで、葉痕にはまだ緑色が差しています。シラキの冬芽は維管束が子供の顔のように見えますが、まだ初々しい少年といったところでした。
We visited the Botanical Garden today, about a month late since it reopened on October 1. We got two extensions on my annual passport. The last time I visited was before summer. Now, the trees look like they are ready for winter. I looked for the winter buds of the Shiraki, or milktree (Neoshirakia japonica) among them. The leaves had just turned red and fallen off, but there was still some green in the leaf traces. The traces of vascular bundles look like the faces of children. They are still very young.
