There was a bit of drama today. There are two Acts in the drama.
Act I:A huge last instar larva of a yellow sparrow moth (Theretra nessus) was attacked by a praying mantis (Hierodula patellifera). The mantis was willing to take on prey that was tens of times its size. It got hold on the larva, but in the end, the mantis could not bear the weight of the yellow sparrow, and the yellow sparrow desperately fought back, so the mantis let go and the yellow sparrow fell ... into a small brook two meters (7 feet) below. Alas!
Act II: After that, there was the exciting rescue drama of the larva, in which I was a hero. However, I don't have any photos of that part--the hero was busy helping the larva out of water. It's a pity, but the larva was happy and well--so it seemed.
