アラカシの果実：Arakashi (Japanese blue oak, (Quercus glauca))

 亀山公園のアラカシがまだ果実を付けたままなのに驚きました。果実の表面は赤紫に変わり、満々と栄養を蓄えているようです。この木は風の当たらない窪地に生えているために、12月末のこの時期まで果実を落とさずにこれたのでしょう。時差を付けて実を落とすことで、発芽の機会も増えるでしょうし。また、野鳥たちにとっても、新鮮な果実の供給は冬の餌の少ない時期には貴重でしょう。ドングリを好むカケスやアオバトなども訪れるかもしれません。

I was surprised to see that the Arakasi trees in Kameyama Park still had fruit on them. The surface of the fruit has turned reddish purple, and it seems to be full of nutrients. The tree grows in a depressed ground where it is not exposed to the wind, so it must have been able to keep its fruit until the end of December. By dropping the fruits at different times, there will be more opportunities for them to sprout. Also, for wild birds, the supply of fresh fruits is valuable during the winter when food is scarce. Jays and green pigeons that like acorns may also visit.
