オナガガモ：Northern pintail (Anas acuta)

先日訪れた賀茂川では、オナガガモの姿を見ることができました。今季初認です。桂川でも嵐山付近には10羽前後の群れが越冬することがありますが、今冬はまだのようです。オナガガモは他の鴨に比べて首が長く細く、また尾羽が長く、他のカモ類よりもスマートに見えます。飛翔する姿はことに優雅です。京都市内ではなかなか見られません。この日は2羽だけでした。交互に餌を探して、なかなか二羽揃って頭を出すことがないのは、周囲に対する息の合った用心でしょうか。

On a recent visit to the Kamo River, I was able to see a couple of northern pintails. It was the first sighting this season. In the Katsura River, a flock of about 10 pintails sometimes overwinters near Arashiyama, but they haven't been observed yet this winter. Northern pintails have a longer and thinner neck than other ducks, and their tail feathers are longer, making them look slimmer than other ducks. There aren't many in Kyoto City area. On this day, I could spot only two. They took turns looking for food. They may be always on the alert.
