ツルウメモドキを解説して充実したページがありましたので、紹介しておきます。
I went out to observe the fruits of the Oriental bittersweet. Where the shells had fallen all over the ground last year, the fruit was surprisingly thin and the shells had not yet opened. On the other hand, in unexpected places they had already opened. Even on the same branch, some fruits have opened, while others have not. I guess it is one of the plant's seeding strategies to ripen fruits at different times in the same place and on the same plant body. The orange-red pseudocarp of the opened fruits shines bright in the sun, making them a attractive target for wild birds. They are often eaten so quickly that only the open shell remains. It's hard to get a picture of a vine with bright fruits. The strategy of the plants and the quickness of the wild birds were quite impressive.
There is an informative web site featuring this plant.
