ニワトコの冬芽：Winter buds of Japanese red elder (Sambucus sieboldiana)

ニワトコの冬芽を観察しました。1月の初旬にして、ふくれあがる花芽の生命力に圧倒されます。花芽より細いものは葉芽でしょうね。葉痕も維管束が3本で可愛らしい顔の形をしています。逆三角形に並んだ3つの点を目と口と見なすのは、人間の本能的な習慣でしょうね。

I observed the winter buds of the Japanese elder tree, and I was overwhelmed by the vigor of the flower buds that were already growing in early January. The leaf buds are thinner than the flower buds. The leaf marks also have three vascular bundles in the shape of a cute face. It is an instinctive habit of human beings to regard the three dots arranged in an inverted triangle as eyes and mouth.
