One of the tsumaki butterflies (yellow tip (Anthocharis scolymus)) whose egg I collected and raised in April last year, pupated in May, and kept in pupa state has hatched. This means that it has awakened from its 11-month sleep. This is the longest record among the butterflies I have raised so far. There are two more pupae to go. And there is one more pupa that has been sleeping since the year before last. The Internet shows some records of this butterfly hatching after a pupa period of up to three years, so I am keeping a close eye on this "two-year-old" butterfly.
