小さな庭で

窓辺の小さなベランダに、蝶を呼びたいと思い、蝶の好む蜜源となる植物を植えています。その中でもペンタスは夏中花を咲かせて、蝶、蜂、アブなどいろいろな昆虫を呼んでくれます。8月中は暑さで若干弱っていましたが、9月に入り花の勢いも増してきたようです。

この日はクロアゲハが吸蜜に訪れました。前翅長は45-70mmにおよぶ大型のアゲハチョウです。ペンタスは細長いラッパ型の花で、口吻が長くないと蜜が吸えないのですが、アゲハチョウにとっては楽勝です。クマバチなどは、花を外側から縦に裂いて蜜を吸います。狼藉者ですね。

In my small balcony by the window, I have planted plants that butterflies like as a nectar source. The flowers were a little weak in August due to the heat, but they seem to be alive again in September.

On this day, a black swallowtail butterfly (Papilio protenor) visited for nectar feeding. It is a large swallowtail with a forewing length of 45-70mm. Pentas is a long and slender trumpet-shaped flower, and it requires a long proboscis to suck the nectar, which is quite easy for the swallowtail butterfly. The yellow chested bumble bees (Xylocopa appendiculata), on the other hand, tear the flower lengthwise from the outside to suck the nectar. They should learn better manners.
