葛の葉に鮮やかなオレンジの頭と胸を持ち、漆黒の羽根を持つテントウムシを見つけました。ムネアカオオクロテントウ (Synona consanguinea)です。もともと台湾、中国南部、東南アジアの虫ですが、2016年に初めて日本で発見されました。葛を食草とするマルカメムシの天敵ですので、生態系を崩す恐れがあるのではないかと、しばらくの間大阪自然史博物館を中心にで調査されていた昆虫です。
私が見つけたのも葛の葉の上で、最初はまどろんでいたのか、大人しかったのですが、写真を撮られていることに気づくと、大急ぎで逃げ始めました。見かけによらず足は速いです。
I found a ladybug on a kudzu leaf with a bright orange head and chest and jet-black wings. It is a Muneaka Giant Black Ladybird. Originally an insect of Taiwan, southern China, and Southeast Asia, it was first discovered in Japan in 2016. Being an invasive insect, the Osaka Museum of Natural History was investigating this insect as a possible threat to the ecosystem, since it is a natural enemy of the kudzu beetle, marukamemushi (Megacopta punctatissimum) which uses kudzu as its food source.
Naturally, I found it on a kudzu leaf, and at first it was quiet, perhaps slumbering, but when it realized that I was taking the pictures, it started to run away in a big hurry. It is by no means as sluggish as it looks.
