ノイバラの葉痕と冬芽です。ノイバラは冬を通じて葉を付けている場合もあります。葉痕は細長くて目立ちません。それよりも、葉を落とした茎には逆刺がびっしり。しかし、よく観察すると、不規則に生えているのではなく、芽を守るように冬芽の脇に対になって生えています。アカシアなどは托葉が変形して棘になっていますが、バラの場合は、茎が変形した物だそうです（刺状突起体）。しかしながら、同じような位置に生えて、植物体を支えるだけではなく、冬芽を守るように生えているのは不思議です。
