ノブドウが木本であることに気づいたのは今年になってからでした。太く逞しい巻きひげが、冬を貫く強い生命力を宿していることから気づきました。そのノブドウが葉を落とし蔓だけになっています。その葉痕の大きいこと。大きな葉を広げ夏の間にたっぷりと養分を作り、茎に蓄え、秋の到来と共に用済みの葉をきれいさっぱり捨て去る。潔さが見事です。
It wasn't until this year that I realized that the Nobudou (ampelopsis) is a woody plant. I noticed the plant has thick and strong curly tendrils (cirri) that gave it a strong life force to carry it through the winter. In the beginning of December, the plant has lost its leaves and is now just a vine. The leaf scars are huge. It spreads its large leaves, produces plenty of nutrients during the summer, stores them in the stems, and then discards the used leaves when autumn arrives. It's graceful determination is magnificent.
