エゴの実とヤマガラ：Japanese snowbell and varied tit (Sittiparus varius)

山道を歩いていると、「コツ、コツ、コツ．．．」と、木をたたく音が聞こえます。コゲラにしてはリズムが異なります。近づいてみるとヤマガラです。見上げると傍には一本のエゴノキが、地上を探すと、エゴノキの種子や空になった種皮が見つかりました。ヤマゲラの食事場のようです。しばらくすると、遠くの枝で再び「コツ、コツ、コツ．．．」が聞こえ始めました。

As I walked along the mountain path, I heard the tapping sound. The rhythm was different from that of a woodpecker. As I approached, I saw that it was a varied tit. When I looked up, I saw a Japanese snowbell beside it, and on the ground were its seeds and empty seed coats. It is a feeding ground for the varied tit. The bird holds the seed on the branch with its foot and cracks open the shell to eat the contents. After a while, I started hearing "knack, knack, knack ..." again on a distant branch.
