植物園で面白い形の冬芽を探し、ミツバウツギを見つけました。維管束が3つの冬芽ですが、その並びが一つ一つ異なって、個性があります。人は3つの点が逆三角形に並んでいると、自動的に「顔」であると認識するようですが、この冬芽の場合も人の顔に見えて、しかも個性的な顔で、なかなか愉快です。冬芽の中には、珊瑚樹のように端正に整った顔つきものもありますが、少し崩れて、個性や癖がある方が面白いと思います。ちょっと人と異なる個性を持った人を面白いと思うのに似ているかもしれません。
Looking for funny-looking leaf marks in the botanical garden, I found a Mitsubautsugi, European bladdernut. The leaf mark has three vascular bundles, but the arrangement is different from one another and each one has its own personality. It seems that people automatically recognize a face when three dots are arranged in an inverted triangle, and this leaf mark, too, looks like a human face. Some leaf marks, like the ones on coral tree, have neat and tidy faces, but I find it more interesting when the face is a bit broken and has its own personality and quirks.
