トラツグミのミミズ狩り：Scaly thrush hunting earth worms

トラツグミの狩りを観察してみました。ミミズを主に食べていますが、果実も食べます。特にシャシャンボの果実は美味しいようで、地上に落ちたものを好んで食べています。ミミズは栄養価が高いのか、掘る際の迫力はすさまじいもので、高速で撮影した写真を見ると、ここぞと狙いを定めた場所で嘴を土の中に根元まで突っ込み、土塊が体の倍ほどの高さに飛び上がるほどの勢いで掘っています。比較的のんびりと動くトラツグミの、目にもとまらない早業です。

I observed scaly thrushes hunting. They mainly eat earthworms, but they also eat fruit. The Shashambo fruit seems to be their favorite, and they eat the ones that have fallen to the ground. They also like earthworms. Earthworms are highly nutritious and thrushes hunt them well and vigorously. In the photos taken at high speed, they plunge their beaks into the soil to the root and dig with such force that the clod flies up to twice the height of their bodies. It's an amazingly fast action by a relatively slow-moving bird.

ここぞと思うところを掘ります。削岩機のように繰り返し嘴を突き立てます。

土塊が舞い上がります。

うまくミミズを捕らえたところです。一日にいったい何匹食べるのでしょうか。
