観察会で渓流沿いを歩き、倒木にアラゲコベニチャワンタケを発見しました。このきのこは以前にも見つけて報告していますが、何度見ても傘の周りに生えた、かわいくもあり、いやらしさも若干ある「アラゲ」が特徴的です。何の目的でここにあるのか、よくわかりません。若いうちは傘がくぼんでいるので、内部を保護する役割があるのでしょう。空気中の水分を捕らえたり、虫がつくのを防いだりする役割もあるかも知れません。このきのこは子嚢菌という種に分類されていて、一見平板に見えるきのこの表面には、細長い形をした子嚢が隙間なく並んでいる層があり、成熟するとそこから煙のように胞子を放出するそうです。残念ながら私の機材ではそこまでの観察はできません。
We walked along a mountain stream for an observation excursion and found an Aragekobenichawan mushroom, or eyelash cup (Scutellinia scutellata), on a fallen tree. I've found this mushroom before and reported on it, but no matter how many times I see it, the "arage", rough hair, around the umbrella, which is at the same time cute and slightly disgusting, is very distinctive. I'm not sure what the purpose is here. When the mushrooms are young and when the umbrellas are hollow, the hairs serve to protect the interior. It may also serve to trap moisture in the air and prevent insects from attaching to it. Taxonomically, this mushroom is classified as a division Ascomycota, and the seemingly flat surface of the mushroom has a layer of elongated conidia lined up without gaps, from which spores are released like smoke when the mushroom matures. Unfortunately, my equipment does not allow me to observe them that closely.
