メジロガモ

メジロガモを観察しました。京都府では初認かもしれません。北アフリカから東ヨーロッパ、インド北部に分布し、世界的に数を減らしている稀少なカモです。極東への飛来は珍しいと思われます。対岸で潜水を繰り返し、川底の藻を食べていました。眼が白くないところから、メスの成鳥と思われます。

I observed a common white eye (Aythya nyroca). This may be the first sighting of this species in Kyoto Prefecture. This rare duck is distributed from North Africa to Eastern Europe and northern India, and its numbers are decreasing. It is rare to see them flying to the Far East. On the opposite shore, it repeatedly dived, eating algae on the river bottom. The eyes were not white, suggesting that it was a grown female.
