久世橋付近の河川工事を見ました。川岸の大木が例外なく切り倒されています。大きなものを計ってみると、樹齢は30年から40年。切り株の直径は50cmから60cmあります。これまでにない規模で河川の改修が行われています。国交省は、河川改修の際に生物多様性を重んじる方針を打ち出しているのですが、桂川に関しては、それは全く感じられません。
I saw river renovation project near the Kuze Bridge. All the large trees along the riverbank were cut down. When I examined the stumps of large ones, I found that the trees are 30 to 40 years old. The diameter of the stumps is 50 to 60 cm. The river is being cleared on an unprecedented scale. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism has made a policy of placing importance on biodiversity when renovating rivers, but I don't see this at all with regard to the Katsura River.
