ヤブツルアズキにウラナミシジミが卵を産み、幼虫が育っています。ウラナミシジミは熱帯性の蝶で、日本では冬も温暖な地域以外では、春から世代交代を繰り返しながら北上して、冬死滅するという、毎年のサイクルを繰り返しています。京都地方でも冬は越えることができず、現在見ることのできる生体はすべて冬に死滅する運命です。それでも懸命に北上するという本能はどこから来ているのでしょうか。
ヤブツルアズキでは実の中に頭を突っ込んで中身を食べています。外にでいている体は不用心この上ないですが、アリたちが盛んに世話をしていますので、何か甘露のようなものを分泌しているのかも知れません。
I found the long-tailed blue (Lampides boeticus) larvae on the yabutsuruazuki (Vigna angularis var. nipponensis). The long-tailed blue is a tropical butterfly, and in Japan, except in areas with mild winters, it repeats its annual cycle of migrating north in the spring, changing generations repeatedly during the course, and then dying out in the winter. Even in the Kyoto area, which is located in the center of Japan, it cannot survive the winter, and all living organisms that can be seen today are destined to die in the winter. Where does this instinct to migrate north come from at all?
The larvae stick their heads inside the peapod and eat the contents. Their bodies are out in the open, but the ants are actively taking care of them, so the larvae may be secreting some kind of nectar.
