キササゲ無残

昨年から観察を続けていたキササゲが無残にも枝と幹を大きく伐採されていました。残念でなりません。伐採された枝が見あたらないところから、どうも生け花の材料として持ち去られたようです。調べてみると、キササゲはその独特な果実の形状から、生け花に用いられるようです。今後は残された株の保護と共に、播種あるいは挿し木によって個体の保護と増殖を考えたいと思います。

The branches and trunks of the Kisasage tree, yellow catalpa (Catalpa ovata), that I had been observing since last year had been cruelly cut down. It's a mindless act and it was a pitiful sight. Since I couldn't find any branches that had been cut down, it might have been taken away as a material for flower arrangement. As I looked up the plant on the Internet, I found many flower arrangement pictures featuring Kisasage. This tree bears peapod-like fruit and it is a unique among the flower materials. From now on, we would like to protect and propagate the remaining plants by sowing the seed or cutting the new shoots.
