知人からゴマダラチョウの幼虫を預かったその日に、自分自身でもゴマダラチョウの幼虫のエノキへの遡上を確認しました。エノキはまだ芽吹きから遠く、せいぜいで葉芽のつぼみがふくらんだ状態です。しかし、考えてみれば、幼虫は落ち葉の中で過ごしても樹上で過ごしても寒さの上ではあまり変わらず、移動の際の天敵のサシガメやアリなどが不活発な若干寒いウチから移動した方が安全であるとも言えるでしょう。その翌日にさらに近くのエノキ上でも発見しました。
On the same day that I received the larva of a Gomadaracho butterfly from a friend of mine, I myself found the returning larva to the enoki tree. Enoki trees are still far from budding, and the leaf buds are still puffy at best. However, whether the larvae spend their time in fallen leaves or on the tree is not much different in terms of coldness, and it would be safer for them to move up the tree when their natural enemies, such as reduviidae and ants, are inactive. On the next day, I found one more larva on the enoki nearby.
